Director Biography
Dr. Brandon James Render is an Assistant Professor of History and the Director of the African American Studies Program. Prior to joining the faculty at UTEP, Render completed his PhD at the University of Texas at Austin and spent three years in the History Department at the University of Utah.
As the Director of African American Studies, Dr. Render is committed to hosting local and national Black history events, providing students with quality teaching in African American Studies and History, and serving as a mentor to all students interested in the study of Black life. As Dr. Render rebuilds the African American Studies Program’s presence on campus, he welcomes anyone—from students and staff to faculty and community members—to take part in this initiative because “Black Studies is for everyone!
